Closed-Cell Spray Foam
Insulation.
The highest R-value per inch on the market. A moisture barrier and an insulator in one. Installed by Premium Foam, our spray foam division — built for RGV climate, backed by CCL Contracting.
Closed-cell spray foam is exactly what it sounds like — millions of microscopic cells, each fully sealed and packed tightly together. The result is a dense, rigid foam that's 6 times stronger than open-cell, blocks moisture by design, and delivers the highest R-value per inch of any common insulation on the market.
When sprayed, closed-cell expands to roughly 30 times its liquid volume, then cures into a hard surface within hours. Unlike open-cell, it stays compact — no air pockets, no compression over time, no drift in performance.
If you've heard "spray foam in the RGV," someone was probably talking about closed-cell. It's the workhorse of South Texas spray foam — the right choice for exterior walls, roof decks, metal buildings, and anywhere humidity, structural strength, or maximum R-value matters.
Closed-cell.
By the numbers.
Where closed-cell
earns its price.
Closed-cell costs more than open-cell — but in the right application, it pays back the premium and then some. Three places it earns its keep in the Rio Grande Valley.
Exterior Walls & Roof Decks
In the RGV, exterior walls and roof decks face the worst of it — sun, heat, humidity, wind. Closed-cell's hydrophobic surface and structural rigidity make it the right call for any envelope-facing application.
→Metal Buildings & Warehouses
Closed-cell bonds directly to metal, eliminates condensation, and turns a hot tin roof into a temperature-controlled space. Standard for RGV commercial buildings, warehouses, and metal homes.
→Flood-Prone or High-Moisture Areas
Cellars, crawlspaces, garages near the coast, anywhere standing water is a risk — closed-cell doesn't absorb water, doesn't degrade, and won't grow mold. Open-cell can't say the same.
→Closed-cell vs
open-cell.
Both have their place. Here's how they differ — at a glance.

RGV summers push 100°F for months, and humidity rarely drops below 60%. Fiberglass insulation absorbs that humidity over time, sags, and loses R-value — your AC ends up working harder every year. Closed-cell doesn't absorb water, doesn't compress, doesn't lose performance. The R-7 you install is the R-7 you have 20 years later.
Hurricane season is the other factor. Closed-cell bonds directly to substrate and adds structural rigidity to walls and roof decks — documented to help structures survive Category 3 winds. In a region where the next named storm is always a concern, that matters.
Four steps.
No surprises.
A clear process from the first phone call to the final walkthrough — same crew, same standards, same construction-degreed leadership as the rest of CCL.
-
i.
Free On-Site Assessment
We come to your home, inspect the application area, identify any prep work, and measure for an accurate quote. Closed-cell quotes are typically delivered within 48 hours.
-
ii.
Project Prep
We mask, contain, and protect non-spray surfaces. The work area is sealed off and ventilated per OSHA standards before a drop of foam is sprayed.
-
iii.
Same-Crew Spray Application
PPE-equipped crew sprays in 1–3 inch passes, building up to your target thickness. Most full-home installs are completed in 1–2 days. Larger commercial jobs run 3–5 days.
-
iv.
Cure, Trim, and Walkthrough
24-hour cure. We trim any excess foam, clean the work area, and walk through the finished install with you before signing off. Warranty paperwork on the same day.
